Ostrogothic fibula.
It can be worn as a clasp or brooch, sometimes they were worn only on the left shoulder, sometimes symmetrically on both.
Fibula – Ostrogothic or Viking Brooch (Replica)
The fibula is a historical ornament 94 mm long, made of a zinc-copper alloy with a gold-colored finish, decorated with cold enamel and imitation pearls.
This type of fibula was characteristic of the Ostrogoths in the late 5th century, but similar designs were later adopted by the Vikings and other northern tribes. Fibulae served both as decorative brooches and functional clasps used to fasten cloaks or tunics – sometimes worn on one shoulder, sometimes symmetrically on both.
This piece is inspired by an original Ostrogothic fibula from the late 5th century. While we cannot say if it was worn by King Theoderic the Great himself, it certainly belonged to someone of high status.
You may notice that the shape is slightly irregular – this is intentional. The asymmetry replicates the authentic craftsmanship of the original artifact. The replica is made a bit sturdier to prevent breakage.
⚠️ Note: Do not attempt to bend or straighten the fibula – the material is not flexible and may crack.
